Body Clock Memories
Bringing Yourself Out of the Present and into the Past
Just like women have menstrual cycles attuned to monthly lunar cycles, men and women also have body clock memories that surface throughout the year. Some are happy, some are sad but the one thing in common is that they bring you out of the present and into past time energy. The concept of body clock memories is fascinating to me because it explains why emotions and unprocessed material surfaces on the somatic level when they do. We can believe that we cleared an issue only to discover that a body clock memory gets triggered and suddenly we take a detour and act old behaviors and patterns.
I have been studying and noticing my own body clock memories for quite some time and am aware of and anticipate their arrival. The more aware I am aware of them, the better off I am.
April flowers and….
Body clock memories are memories that surface during specific times of years – almost to the exact date & time. As a busy culture focusing on what is coming down the pike, we often do not even realize when we smack dab in the middle of body clock memory. I decided to write about body clock memories this month because I just went through a month of body clock memories recently.
April is the time of year when I got divorced, would have had a child if I didn’t miscarry, and moved from my home in a moments notice. It is also the month my beloved wolf dog died. So when April rolls around, something internal in my body says: “Pay Attention!” I might be grooving along in all aspects of my life but old emotions may come through, with no warning and upset me or make me more reactive.
Body Clock Memories can be overt or gently tug at the sub-conscious or soul level.
What Can You Do?
If you get quiet & dig a little deeper thru yoga, mediation, breath work or psychotherapy, you may discover that you are in the throws of a full fledge body clock memory. What this means is that your body has associated this time of year with some form of trauma. Yes, maybe you have worked on it, maybe you have cleared a huge portion of it but the body is so intelligent that it stills remember the original assault or energetic downgrade. It may have happened last year or many moons ago. You experienced something very challenging and deep and your body stored it and totally remembers. It remembers everything. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
The body is truly brilliant in this way, and if you listen very carefully, you can hear the messages because the body never lies. Now your analytical mind is an entirely different story. It can lead you on the wildest of goose chases.
Being aware of your body clock memories can save you a lot of time and energy. It can spare you from going down the rabbit hole of despair and chastising yourself wondering why am I so off? Why am I so emotional? Why do I hurt?
When you are attuned to your own personal body clock memories you have a chance of catching onto what is happening before a downward spiral can occur. You can be extra gentle with yourself and know this is a sensitive time so be mindful of what you truly need right now.
You can navigate through with ease and grace by:
1.) Cutting them off at the pass. Be willing to unearth more or just simply say “I know historically this month has been challenging for me. I understand the deeper content and how my physical body is responding to that somatic memory that is associated with this time of year.
2.) Coming up with specific ideas and rituals to nourish yourself. I used the power of the Red Moon & sat in mediation all night long. I put the time in to rewire and kept taking out the garbage that was littering my psyche.
3.) Remind yourself that you are truly in present day. Sometimes acknowledging the actual date is helpful.
4.) Tuning in & listening to what your body is telling you, to make it through with less confusion and damage.
5.) Get massages, energy medicine, body centered therapy ,attend a Yoga retreat, or simply have some fun. Extra self love & TLC goes a long way. As my friend, Christine Arylo says- “Give to yourself unapologetically.”
Time truly does heal all wounds. Whatever has a grip on you, can be eventually loosened. As a personal healer and owner of Relax And Be Free, I encourage you to discover & face your body clock memories head on. Knowing and believing that concept that “this too shall pass.” Sometimes we do need to dive into the underworld and get into the nitty gritty of our stuff knowing the rewards of relaxation and freedom in the body are always worth the work.
Peace & Blessings,
Amanda
